With more than 35 million players around the world, volleyball is truly a world sport. We are expecting about 200 - 250 teams for the Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010 with a total of about 1,300 players. Women as well as men can choose from five classes.
Every team has six players on the field, which is divided by a net more than 2 meters high. Technique is particularly crucial in volleyball in order to get the ball over the net in a way so the opposing team is unable to return it and it touches the ground. The set positions and the rotation of players to the individual positions make the game principle unique.
Throughout Cologne almost a dozen gymnasiums are available for the matches, all within 10 to 20 minutes from downtown by tram.
