Running is humankind’s oldest means of transportation, and a sport that remains accessible for almost everyone around the world, whether young or old, male or female, poor or wealthy.
We are expecting at least 300 athletes for the Marathon and Road Race events at Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010.
We offer several Road Race distances in beautiful locations: the 5 and 10 kilometer courses will be at the Sportpark Muengersdorf. Half marathon (21.1 km) and marathon (42.195 km) in the heart of the east side of Cologne.
Transponders will be used for timing for each distance to ensure the accuracy of times. The chips will be handed out at the start of each race and will require the payment of a small fee and a deposit. For those of you who already have compatible chips, you can of course use them.
The courses for each distance will be blocked off and will include multiple water stations at which water and a sport beverage will be handed out. For the marathon and half-marathon bananas or health bars will also be handed out.
