Description
This tour covers gay Cologne, from the start of the gay movement, through the twenties, the dark times of National Socialism and the Adenauer era, to the sexual crime reform of 1969. The tour shows many historical places of the gay movement. It also includes stories of overzealous police officers in urinals and of raids and persecution. Which dangers did § 175 hold? Which homosexual scandals rocked the civil society? Which bars were frequented in the ‘50s and what was allowed in the bars – during a time when two men dancing together was seen as a pre-sexual act? At the Waidmarkt, we report of the Grobben incident – the fall of the district president shortly before the 1966 state parliament election and at the town hall you will gain an insight into the meticulous work of the youth welfare office and its link to the Catholic Church. Our carefully selected stories will provide you with a very complex, lively and entertaining image of gay and lesbian life in the Cologne of the past.
