Description
Did you know that Cologne's Jewish community is the oldest north of the Alps, mentioned as far back as the Roman Age? Or that the State of Israel was virtually designed in Cologne, half a century before its actual founding? Welcome to a journey through almost two millennia of Jewish history and life!
Rhenania Judaica offers tours in German, English and Hebrew, with the focus on Jewish historic sites and events. Because Jewish history is literally close at hand in Cologne, our walking tour of 3 hours takes you to almost all the places of importance.
Some of the highlights of the Cologne Walking tour are a fascinating descent into the preserved Mikveh from the Middle Ages, the visit of the historical location of the ancient Jewish quarter in the heart of the city, and the exploration of varying Jewish references in the grand Gothic Cathedral. We also visit memorial sites that commemorate persecution and extermination, and we walk in the footsteps of the early zionist movement.
