The European Union with its 27 members has de facto three “capitals”: in Strassburg there´s the European Parliament, in Luxembourg the European Court and in Brussels the European Commissions, the so called ministries of the Union. Brussels is also the capital of the Belgium Kingdom, which was separated and installed after a revolution in the year 1830 from the Netherlands.
The multilingual Belgium, they speak French, Flemish and also German has one of the most modern capitals which also offer some medieval jewels. The market place, and the Grand Palace in the center of the city may be one of the most beautiful in Europe.
Other sites of interest: Manneken Pis, the Atomium, the Cathedral Saint Michel and the royal palace “Schloss Laeken”. Belgium beer, waffles and chocolate are counting as culinary special quality. With the Thalys, a fast train which is going from Cologne to Paris, Brussels can be reached in less than two hours.
