The triathlon is taking place on the beautiful Fühlinger See, in the Merkenich area of Cologne. When transporting your bike to the location, it is recommended that you ride to the Fühlinger See on Saturday and check in your bike at the staging/transition area.
The cycling-driving directions from downtown to the Fühlinger See are:
From Rudolfplatz take the Ringstrasse to Ebertplatz, from Dom/Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) take Turinerstrasse to Ebertplatz.
From Ebertplatz take Neusstrasse, the street at the north-east corner of the large square and park, and travel north, approximately 8 km, to Oranjehof Strasse, which is just north of the A-1 Autobahn underpass. Turn right on Oranjehof Strasse and travel .5 Km, turning left and crossing the bridge onto the P1/Ruderinsel.
Directions for Sunday Morning:
On Sunday, August 1, Games Cologne offers a shuttle for Triathlon Participants. The shuttle will depart at 6:00 a.m. from Neumarkt on Sunday, August 1. This shuttle will go directly to the event location. There will be limited to no room for bikes so participants should take their bikes to the event site on Saturday.
Please note that this shuttle will depart only one time, at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday from Neumarkt. Sprint Triathlon participants can use this shuttle as well, or they can use public transportation.
The best route using public Transportation is to take the train from downtown Cologne to Chorweiler, either the S-11 S-Bahn, or the U-15 Tram, and then the 122 bus, with a 10-minute walk from the bus stop. This trip is recommended only if you do not have your bike, because the bus will be able to accommodate a limited number of bikes.
On Sunday the S-11 leaves Cologne Hauptbahnhof (Central Train Station) at 5:44 a.m. and arrives at Chorweiler at 5:57 a.m., and then every hour at 44 minutes past the hour. An alternative is to take the U-15 Tram from Rudolfplatz at 5:15 a.m., arriving at Chorweiler at 5:43 a.m. The tram runs every 30 minutes.
On Sundays the 122 bus from Chorweiler leaves every 30 minutes beginning at 6:06 a.m. At the Seeberg bus stop exit the bus and turn right. Walk beside the apartments to Asternweg, about 50 meters, and turn right. Cross Neusser Hauptstrasse (the street on which the bus had been traveling) and continue on Asternweg, following the signs to Blackfoot Beach and the Tennis center. The road turns to the right but keep straight ahead along a pedestrian and bike path, bearing right to walk along the right side of the lake. The path bends around the lake. Bear left over the foot bridge to the island and the start of the Triathlon. The walk is a total of less than 1 kilometer and about a 10 minute walk.
In the alternative take Neusser Landstrasse south from the stop, then turn left, east on Oranjehofstrasse to the P1/Ruderinsel.
