If you want to reach the top, climbing is for you! And it’s not just about powerful arms and legs. Choosing the right technique is decisive for success. Around 200 competitors are expected to take part.

Budding participants should expect intricate rules and a challenging climb. As well as sport climbing, the Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010 will offer three classes of lead climbing – with safety rope and bouldering at a jumpable height of 4 metres. For the qualifiers and semi-final, of lead climbing, climbers may take a look at the wall to be scaled before the competition begins. For the final, however, they will be required put their “on-sight” skills into practice as they seek out the best route on a wall they have never seen before.

All climbing events will take place at the KletterFABRIK climbing gym in Ehrenfeld, which can be reached in no time at all by taking the underground from Neumarkt or the S-Bahn.

Safety ropes will be provided for all climbers. Climbing shoes, sit string harnesses and other climbing gear must be brought by the climbers themselves.
