Categories and Divisions of Competition
Classification:
Women and men will be judged separately and according to the following age groups: 18-29, 30-34, 35-39, etc., by 5-year increments.
Rules
The 5K and 10K Road Races will be held according to the rules of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) and in conjunction with the Association of International Marathons and Road Races (AIMS) and International Frontrunners (IFR).

Timekeeping
Timekeeping is done with an appropriate championchip. Without such a chip participation is NOT possible. Do you not own such a chip by yourself there are the follwing possibilities: you may purchase such a chip via internet (www.mikatiming.de) or you can get a so-called "single-use-chip" by cash payment of 5,- Euros during the distribution of the starting material respectively before starting. If you buy this chip via internet you have to send your chip-number to games cologne through the registration system.

Food service facilities and drink station are available at the start/finish line area.
First-Aid
First-aid stations and paramedics will be available.
Tickets
Entrance to tournaments is free for all spectators.

Half-Marathon & Marathon

Starting time: 8:45 a.m.
Both the marathon and half-marathon begin simultaneously. Therefore, athletes may compete in only one race.
Halfmarathon and Marathon participants may also - without any additional cost - register for 10 K and 5 K which take place August 2 and August 5 (see above).
Half-Marathon and Marathon of the Gay Games will take place in conjunction with the so-called GAG 1/2 Marathon (www.gag-halbmarathon.de)
Fill your tank with delicious Carbs!
A marathon without pasta would be like Cologne without the Cathedral.
Therefore for the marathon and the half marathon there will be a substantial pasta meal on the eve of the competition.
All participants of the runs are warmly invited to fill up there carb tanks and to get in touch with the other participants at a loose chat.
Spontaneous participation is at 10 Euros / Person. If you register beforehand at anmeldung@gag-halbmarathon.de you only pay 9 Euros.

Distribution of starting material
the distribution of starting material will take place either Friday Aug 6 ,2010 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. or on Sarturday , Aug 7,2010 frbeginning 7 a.m. at the registration office in the Stadthalle Muelheim, Jan-Wellem-Str. 2, 51065 Koeln-Muelheim, near Wiener Platz.
We recommend to pick up the starting material as early as possible preferrably on Friday already in order to avoid waiting time at the day of the event.
Venue
Cologne-Muelheim, on the right bank of the Rhine River.
Start/Finish: Wiener Platz, in Cologne-Muelheim, directly in front of the district city hall.
Route: 21.1 km circular course; marathon runners will complete the course twice.

1 / 2 marathon and marathon are officially measured and the course goes through a beautiful landscape of the east side of Cologne and its suburbs Muelheim, Buchforst, Buchheim, Holweide, Dellbrueck, Brueck, Merheim and Hoehenberg
Transportation
Tram: lines 4, 13, 18 to station "Wiener Platz".
Bus: lines 151, 152, 159, 250, 260, 434 to bus stop "Wiener Platz".
Suburban S-bahn trains: lines S6, S11 to station "Köln-Mülheim", then one stop with bus.
Regional trains (Deutsche Bahn): lines RE 1, RE 5, RB 48 to station "Köln-Mülheim", then one stop with bus.

Timekeeping
timekeeping is done with the official championchip only. This chip can be rent by a deposit of 30 Euros. If you return this chip without any damage at the day of the event (latest until 4 p.m. in the registration office) you will get back 25 Euros.
The championchip can be rent during the distribution of the starting material payed by cash.
the championchip can also be purchased via internet prior to the Gay Games (www.mikatiming.de). In this case this chip will be your own property and you have to send the chip-number via the registration system to games cologne.
Starting Blocks
Block 1: World class runners, i.e. finishing time under 1h30(HM)/3h00(M)
Block 2: Competitive runners, i.e. finishing time 1h30-1h50(HM)/3h00-3h45(M)
Block 3: Recreational runners, i.e. finishing time over 1h50 (HM)/3h45(M)
Completion Times
The half-marathon must be completed within three (3) hours of the starting time (11:00).
The marathon must be completed within six (6) hours of the starting time (14:00).
Services
Runners will find drink stations at every 5K marker on the route and at the finish line.
Coat Check/ Valuables
Jackets, bags, and personal belongings can be stored in the Sporthalle Bergischer Ring. The Sporthalle Bergischer Ring assumes no liability for lost or stolen items.
Shower/cloakroon/changing room
possibilities to change and shower are available at Sporthalle Bergischer Ring (appr. 300m away from Wiener Platz); please watch the signs.
Valuables
bags can be stored in this Sporthalle by suspension of liability
