Rules of Play
The powerlifting tournaments will take place according to the rules of the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) www.powerlifting-ipf.com
Squat
For the squat, the lifter places the bar below his or her neck, holds his or her abdominal and back muscles tensed, locks his or her knees, and stands upright. When the referee gives the signal to start, the lifter lowers his or her hips until the top surface of his or her legs is lower than the knees. After reaching the prescribed level, the lifter returns to the starting position and, after the signal to rack the bar, places it on the rack stand again.
Bench Press
During the bench press, the lifter lies on his or her back on a bench. When the referee gives the signal to start, the lifter lowers the bar to his or her chest in a controlled manner and after a clearly visible pause and the press signal from the referee, the lifter raises the bar again, at the end of which his or her arms must be completely extended. Head, shoulders, and buttocks remain in contact with the surface of the bench during the entire lift. Once the starting position is reached again and after the signal to rack the bar, the lifter places it on the bench rack again.
Deadlift
For the deadlift, the bar is on the floor in front of the lifter. No start signal is given. The lifter bends his or her knees and grips the bar wider than the distance between his or her knees (or if his or her feet are placed wide apart, between his or her legs) with both hands in a mixed overhand-underhand grip. The lifter then lifts the weight until he or she is standing upright; in the final position, he or she pulls the shoulders back and locks his or her knees. After the signal to lower the bar, the lifter places it on the floor again.
