The Individual and Team time trials for cycling will take place around the beautiful Wahner Heide (the Wahn Heath), a nature preserve near the Cologne-Bahn Airport. The location is easily reached by the public transportation system in Cologne. To get to the start of the race, take the suburban line S-13 from the Hansaring station or the Hauptbahnhof (Central Train Station), in the direction Troisdorf. Trains run at least every 20 minutes throughout the day.
Exit the train at the Cologne-Bahn Airport stop and turn right, toward Terminal 1B.
Go up the escalator/stairs and turn left in the hall, following the signs toward terminal 1B. Continue up a second set of escalators and exit the building through the glass doors. Turn left, away from the terminal, and stay on the block sidewalk. That walkway becomes a pedestrian/bike path. Continue along that path, and when it turns to asphalt you can ride your bike along it. The path winds beside a road and then bears left under a bridge. Continue along that path. It exits onto a street, bear left and continue along that street, the Waldstrasse. The street runs past the office of German Wings on the left and a Holiday Inn on the right, and around a circle. Stay on that street for 500 meters until you reach the intersection with Grengeler Mauspfad, and turn right.
Ride/walk along the pedestrian/bike path on Grengeler Mauspfad for 1.4 Kilometers, going under the Autobahn that serves the airport. Please stay on the bike path and obey all traffic lights, because this area is heavily traveled by trucks and cars.
At an intersection with the Alter Kölner Strasse, turn right. The start of the race is on the Alter Kölner Strasse, approximately 100 meters from the intersection with the Grengelener Mauspfad. The trip from the airport S-Bahn stop is about a 20-30 minute walk, or a 5-10 minute bike ride.
The Village of Longerich, a suburb of Cologne, is the base for the Cycling Road Race. The cyclists will race around a course on the streets of the town. Longerich is a beautiful village that hosts the annual Cologne Classic bike race, and it is a well-known cycling area with several bike shops.
The easiest way to get to Longerich is to take the S-11 from the Hauptbahnhof (Central Station), direction Neuss/Düsseldorf. The stop is the Longerich station, a 10-minute trip from Hauptbahnhof.
The start/finish of the competition is along Longericher Hauptstrasse. To get to the start/finish line exit the train and down stairs, turning left and descending more steps to exit the station. Cross the small parking lot and turn right on Grethen Strasse, following it for 275 meters. Grethen Strasse ends at Longericher Hauptstrasse, one of the race streets and the location of the start/finish of the race. Turn left and walk down the street to the start location.
