VIII. Gay Games Cologne 2010

Gay Games fever is spreading in Cologne! The Villages on Neumarkt and on Rudolfplatz are so popular that they will now stay open later. Starting today, the drink stalls will stay open until midnight. “It seemed very important to us that participants and guests of the Gay Games have a place to meet until late in the night”, stated Michael Lohaus, co-president of the Cologne Gay Games. “By day, the participants are eagerly competing in their disciplines – needless to say that they want to celebrate their results afterwards. We are overwhelmed by the appeal of the Villages and were able to find a quick and easy solution.”
 
Until now, the City of Cologne had imposed a curfew at 10 p.m., but the organization committee of the Cologne Gay Games was able to find an amicable solution between the Village operator Rheingold, the Cologne bar owners and the municipal public affairs office.
 
Roughly 10.000 participants from 70 nations are presently in Cologne. Attendance in the two Villages is expected to reach one million visitors over the week of the Gay Games. On Neumarkt and Rudolfplatz there are numerous info booths and stages that play host to a number of DJs.
 
“The atmosphere of the Gay Games is so exciting that the whole city of Cologne should come and join our celebration!” said Michael Lohaus, inviting all Cologne citizens to a visit at the Villages in the city centre.

Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010 have competitions in 35 different sports and five cultural events scheduled. This offer is completed by the two Villages, as well as various parties and other cultural offers. The Cologne Gay Games will end on Saturday August 7, 2010 with a big final Closing Party at the Tanzbrunnen (starting at 7 p.m.). Tickets from 18 euro.
