At the swimming competitions of the Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010 29 world records have been reached so far. All records have been reached in different age classes at the relays. Among them the 4 x 100 m freestyle (women, men, mixed), 4 x 100 m medley (women, men), 4 x 200 m freestyle (mixed), 4 x 50 m freestyle (men), 4 x 200 m freestyle (women, men), 4 x 100 m medley (mixed).
World records can only be established at master competitions. The records have to be reported to the swimming association within two weeks. There the results will be analyzed and the official record lists produced. The flood of records is explained for once by the fantastic performance of the athletes; on the other hand by the fact, that the world records in different relay competitions are only recognized since half a year ago.
Also at the track & field stadium outstanding times have been reached. The Australian race walking champion Stewart Kollmorgen won the race walking competition over 5000 m in 24:14,54 min. The 100 m were won by a French in 11,03 sec, at 400 m an American was successful in very good 49,76 sec, a Belgian dominated the 5000 m and won in 16:39,79 min. Over 800 m an Australian was successful in 2:12, 57 min. A Dutch won the 200 m in 27,97 at the women’s competition.
