You asked for it - we made it possible: Sailing, Field Hockey, Sport-Shooting and Cheerleading
With the addition of Sailing, Field Hockey and Sport Shooting there are now 34 sports scheduled for the first week of August in 2010. We have also added Cheerleading as a fifth cultural event. You asked for it - we made it possible! There were so many requests for these competitions that we have added them to the Cologne Gay Games, coinciding with the start of registration!
Sailing will be held in collaboration with the city of Roermond in the Netherlands, at the famous nearby Maas Lakes. This is a very popular first-class sailing venue less than an hour's drive away from Cologne (the two cities are only 90 kilometres from each other). We will be using shuttle buses that will connect the cities three times daily. The sailing event will be conducted according to international standard so that the performances are recognised worldwide.
Cheerleading has joined the cultural events at Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010. Dozens of squads and cheerleaders will be cheering on participants and spectators at the various sport competitions and will be seen repeatedly on stages throughout the city. Acrobatic squads and pompon teams from all over the world will be demonstrating their breathtaking skills at the "Cheer Up!" afternoon.
Number of participants:
There are 180 positions for the Sailing events. Regional quotas apply on a first-come, first-served basis, so we strongly recommend registering soon; this sport sold out early in both Sydney and Chicago.
Field Hockey offers room for 15 teams (150 participants) and we are expecting150 participants for the Sport Shooting events. There is no maximum number for Cheerleading.
