Harbinger of the Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010
This year´s Christopher Street Day (CSD) will be a harbinger of the Gay Games. To take the major event into account, on the 4th of July, ColognePride will use the motto of “Pride moves”.
“Pride doesn´t stand for arrogance, but for the self-confident life of sexual identity”, says Markus Danuser of the lesbian and gay foundation Cologne (KLUST), organizer of the ColognePride. The Gay Games will be declared open in the RheinEnergieStadium on July 31.
The gay-lesbian Cologne Pride weeks of action take place from June 19 through July 4. The highlight is the CSD weekend in the city-center of Cologne from July 2 – 4, with the big parade on Sunday.
The fact that the organizers of CSD chose a motto referring to sport is also a big positive for Michael Lohaus, manager of the Games Cologne gGmbH. “This is the highlight of our partnership over many years and speaks to the sound structure of the gay-lesbian scene in the city”, says Lohaus.
During the presentation of the motto of this year´s CSD, Michael Lohaus accentuated that the Gay Games is more than a collection of sport and cultural events for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgenders. “We would like to bring all social groups together. For example, we would welcome Volleyball teams with heterosexual players to register as well”, says Lohaus. Up to 12,000 participants are expected for the Gay Games in Cologne.
