Gay-lesbian choirs provide more than only a supporting program
There was a storm of enthusiasm also at the 2nd choir concert of the Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010 at the COMEDIA theatre. After the brilliant start of the choir festival on Sunday night, the 2nd of three choir concerts was sold out as well. The atmosphere was wonderful.
The festival startet with the gay-lesbian choir “dIETAKTLOSEN”, from Cologne, founded in 1997. Under the leadership of Ilka Tenne the 30 singers presented a part of their repertoire. It started smooth with Josef Rheinbergers “Abendlied”. Interesting also were the choir sets of “Mensch” from Herbert Grönemeyer and “Engel” from Rammstein.
The women´s choir “Chorillas” from Cologne delighted the spectators with a bunch of well known melodies after the break. Under the leadership of Julia Cramer hits like “Good morning, Sunshine” and “I don´t want chocolate” as well as Zarah Leanders evergreen “Can love be a sin” were presented. With “I got rhythm” from Gershwin, the singers thanked their spectators.
The Dutch choir “Manoeuvre – Gay Chorus Amsterdam” under the leadership of Floor Erp performed at the end of this wonderful evening. Nearly 50 men were on stage and gave their best. With “Theatre” the German title for the Eurovision Cong Contest in 1980 they managed to conquer the heart of the crowd. Also a wonderful mix was presented with Amy Winehouse´s “Rehab” and George Michael´s “Freedom”. The choir set “I don´t feel like dancing” hit of the Scissor Sisters filled with enthusiasm.
On Friday, Aug, 6 there will be the last concert of the Gay Games choir festival. Then the “Koelner SPITZbuben”, the mixed ensemble “da Chor Colonia and the “Rheintöchter” from Cologne as well as guest choirs “Cantatori del Duomo” from Utrecht and “Mannenkoorts Den Haag” (NL) will appear on stage.
