Team Band
Since the first Gay Games in 1982, cultural activities have been an integral part of the festivities. The VIII Gay Games 2010 Cologne will be no exception.
Musicians from all over the world will converge in Cologne for the Gay Games. From folk tunes to rock, from playful to profoundly emotional – Team Band epitomizes the diversity and openness of the Games. Gay Bands have performed at every Gay Games since 1982.
In collaboration with the Lesbian and Gay Band Association (LGBA), a variety of activities are planned for instrumentalists. Whether you come alone or with an entire ensemble, you will have plenty of opportunities to perform!
The marching band will lead the audience in the RheinEnergieStadion with an amazing performance for the opening ceremony of the Gay Games. This much is certain: the audience at the opening ceremony of Gay Games VIII Cologne 2010 will be thrilled. Rehearsals for the show will take place in Cologne on July 29 and 30, so plan to be in town no later than July 28 if you want to take part.
The second major event for Team Band will be a 50-minute concert on Thursday, August 5, at the University of Music and Dance in Cologne, one of the largest and most renowned music conservatories in Europe. Rehearsal for this Gala Concert will take place daily from Monday to Thursday.
Small ensembles – pep bands, as it were – are invited to team up with choruses and cheerleading squads to perform brief open air shows on the streets and squares of Cologne on Sunday and Tuesday.
All Team Band activities are being coordinated by the Lesbian and Gay Band Association (LGBA) through their Team Band website, www.teamband.org . You must register for both the Band Festival in Cologne and Team Band.
