We do sports – Cologne
Cologne is a lively town, even in sporting terms, not only because the Gay Games VIII will be held there. The number one tradition is FC Cologne, the soccer club in Cologne. What an event it was when Cologne reentered the first soccer league two years ago. The whole city center was draped in red and white and the fans went wild. Also very popular is the first league hockey club, Cologne Sharks, whose home games have a cult following. During recent years, Cologne has hosted world cups in numerous disciplines at its various stadiums and multipurpose halls. The hockey world cup 2010 will have its grand finale in the Lanxess Arena where all finals take place. In this hall, the finale of the handball world cup 2007 took place when the German team celebrated a magnificent triumph. In the Rhine Energy stadium, where numerous events of the Gay Games will take place, five games of the unforgotten soccer world cup 2006 were played. Germany showed an extraordinary picture of friendship during those days.
