760 matches have been held within 6 days.
Mike Myers from Detroit sounds a bit proud when he talks about organizing the tennis tournament for the Gay Games in Cologne together with Jason Freed from the Californian Palm Springs, also USA. No wonder, as overall 600 women and men compete in 760 matches for the victory in their class. One of them is Stefan Bolton, originally from a town near Stuttgart. 19 years ago he moved to the USA, now he is living in Denver. But Bolton is not only playing tennis: the Gay Games in Sydney were the reason for him to found a hockey team with other gay men. “Today we are 3 teams playing with different quality”, he says. Stefan is registered for both sports during the Gay Games in Cologne. An exhausting thing as “both is a burden for the legs” he explains. “Therefore I cannot start with my hockey team before I lost at my tennis single or double matches.”
But it still doesn´t look like it. Today the 38 year old did his third match – winning all so far. “It was a good idea to arrive earlier in Germany to train” says Bolton. Being a teacher for European history it fits that he is on vacation right now. “In the US we don´t have sand courts. Therefore I came to Germany a few weeks ago, to prepare myself well for the Gay Games.” And when he´s finished with this sport, he dedicates himself to hockey: “In overall 5 matches chances are good, that I will be in action.”
